The Diocese of Paterson includes the three counties of Passaic, Morris, and Sussex in northern New Jersey, under the leadership of Bishop Arthur Joseph Serratelli. The diocese is blessed with urban, suburban, and rural parishes. Our parishes, schools, agencies, hospitals, and ministries help to serve the 377,000 Catholics who live in the diocese.
We are committed to building a community which is truly Catholic, united in our adherence to the faith handed down through the ages from the apostles. We invite you to learn more about our community of faith. We offer our services to those in need, and for those who wish to serve, we offer many opportunities.
As members of St. John Vianney Parish, in the Diocese of Paterson, we are called to a life of faith centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ and His church. Our mission is to enable our parish family to come together as a community of faith, continuously focusing on the spiritual, educational and social aspects of our parish community.

DIOCESE OF PATERSON

To the parishioners of St. John Vianney Parish,
Your parish is vibrant and has a wonderful parish life under the leadership of Fr. Twiggs, however, there are significant financial challenges. As with any family, each of our parishes will always change and develop in order to meet the needs of present and future generations of the local church.
I am calling on you to join together in some ways with the people from your neighboring parish, St. Thomas the Apostle. I am happy to appoint Fr. Matt Twiggs as the pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle, as well as continuing to be the pastor of St. John Vianney. St. Thomas is also a wonderful faith community. The Diocese is undergoing a comprehensive plan to strengthen all its parishes. Working together, we have found a way for the people of both St. John's and St. Thomas to respect their individual history and also to prepare for the future. Without this new arrangement, St. John would continue to financially struggle and not meet its expenses. While the finances of each parish will remain completely separate, some programs and services may be combined in order to leverage the strengths of both parishes. Our goal is to remain strong in serving the people of St. John Vianney and St. Thomas the Apostle. I want to thank you and the parishioners of St. Thomas, in advance, for your cooperation. This new venture is yet another expression of creatively and wisely meeting the needs of all of the people of God. Invoking God's Blessing on your, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ
Most Rev. Arthur J. Serratelli, S.T.D., S.S.L., D.D. Bishop of Paterson
